Integrative Oncology

Picture

Incorporating natural therapies into a cancer treatment plan can have remarkable results.

The goal of integrative oncology is to enhance conventional medical treatment, to improve safety and effectiveness, to reduce side effects and suffering, and to keep patients as healthy as possible while undergoing treatment or in post treatment recovery.  Naturopathic doctors are trained in accredited naturopathic medical schools in both modern science and natural medicine. Those who specialize in naturopathic oncology understand both conventional treatments used by medical oncologists and how to work with them in a collaborative approach to cancer care.

Personalized Care

Dr. Mutti can help you understand your diagnosis, scans, and test results and answer questions about treatment recommendations. She will also explain options for natural therapies used to increase the effectiveness of conventional treatments, minimize side effects (nausea, fatigue, joint pain etc), and strengthen your immune system during and after treatment.

Naturopathic doctors are aware of a wide range of therapies frequently sought by patients new to the diagnosis. They are well trained in botanical medicine, nutritional and immunological support as well as other complementary and supplemental techniques.  They are in a unique position to guide their patients in making wise choices regarding which “alternative” treatments, supplements and dietary concepts are falsely promised “miracle cures” and which may be beneficial. They understand the science that explains why some supplements may make chemotherapy, radiation and other medical treatments more effective and which may prevent treatments from working. The marketplace for natural and alternative treatments is confusing. Dr Mutti can clarify these issues for you.

Restoring Health and Preventing Recurrence

Chemotherapy, radiation and other treatments have long as well
as short term side effects. Both cancer and the treatments used
to fight it can diminish immunity, energy and vitality. The choices
you make every day about diet, supplements, exercise, and
managing stress have a major effect on your recovery. Dr Mutti
can guide you in making wise choices and recommending
evidence-based, natural therapies to help you restore health
with a focus on immune support, detoxification, side effects and
prevention.

Dr. Mutti is a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO)

Naturopathic doctors who meet standards representative of advanced experience and knowledge in cancer care are eligible for board certification in Naturopathic Oncology. Qualifying doctors whose applications are accepted must complete a 2 year, post-graduate, nationally accredited, hospital-based, integrative oncology fellowship and then pass stringent examinations in order to be awarded the status of Fellow by the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. Examinations demonstrate competence in both naturopathic and conventional medical oncology. These naturopathic doctors meet the highest standard of the profession as specialists in naturopathic oncology.
